That Third Dimension

It looks like the JCS 2011 Ornament issue is arriving in peoples mailboxes and in the shops. I haven't got my copy yet, but I saw a picture of ornament I did for it. I wasn't sure how well the single photo would convey what it was, so I've got a few more pictures to show you.

It's a book. The red fabric "Tango" from Picture This Plus reminded me of the faded red leather of old books. I used Belle Soie to emboss a little pattern into my leather, then finished it with some felt pages. The back has the same border as the front with my initials and date, and a dainty pattern on the spine.

  1. Oh how sweet! A flat picture doesn't give any impression of it being a little book at all. It reminds me of some of the books I have safely stored away from the early 1900's. My copy of The Professor by Charlotts Bronte looks a lot like that.

  3. Oh what a brilliant design!

The inside, instead of being felt, could have a separate small stitched for each family member.

Or if you like the design but don't "do" Christmas, change the wording on the front and it is a perfect Needleminder.

Brilliant design! One of your best! But then I am biased towards books ..

  4. PTP has a few other fabric colors that I have been eying that look like other antique leather colors - a dark brown and a blackish one. I've thought about doing a small group of books with the full finishing instructions as a leaflet. Thoughts?
