Melanoma

Deb's friend Melissa was diagnosed with melanoma a short time ago.  We are happy to report that Melissa has just returned back to work after weeks of surgery and treatments. Deb made her this beautiful pillow to celebrate her cancer survival and their friendship.  The awareness ribbon color for Melanoma Cancer is black, so Deb had substituted in some beautiful shades for the pink ribbons in my Breast Cancer Awareness Mandala.

Melissa's pillow - front
The back

It says Friend, Mother, Survivor, 2013
What an honor to be part of this beautiful tribute and to be able to share it with you. Congratulations to Melissa and well wishes for a continued cancer-free life. And thanks to Deb for sharing the story; well done.

If you are interested in making your own tribute for a friend or loved one, the chart is here and a table of the appropriate ribbon colors is on Wikipedia.

  2. To the blog author,
I hate to use your blog in this way, but given the touching and beautiful effort your friend made for the patient, I thought you would rather know. "Jenny" has been hijacking any blog/post with and reference to cancer in the title (including mine) to push Branyon and her Center. Turns out Branyon is NOT a doctor, but a CRIMINAL. Fredda Branyon of Scottsdale, Arizona, has made thousands off sick and desperate individuals. Ms. Branyon started buying umbilical cords and cord blood tissue from a Del Rio birthing center in 2009. Then, with no training regarding stem cell development or the legal ability to do so, she manufactured hundreds of vials of "stem cells". She sold 183 vials of "stem cells" for more than $300,000, to Francisco Morales, who worked with the lab she owned, Global Laboratories. Morales, in turn, led his patients to believe he was a doctor (he isn't) and was arrested in Texas for treating people with cancer and multiple sclerosis in "treatments" not approved by the FDA. Branyon pleaded guilty during an investigation by the FDA and FBI in 2011. She was facing 3 years in jail and a $10,000 fine. I hope she is cooling her heels in prison as I write.
All sad but true. Thought you'd rather know. Wishing your friend the best.
