Roll Your Own Mandala

It's the big unveiling of a project I've been working on for quite some time. Woohoo! I'm calling it the "Roll Your Own" mandala, because it's not just a chart I'm providing. It's a whole system that will let you colorize the mandala to your own kaleidoscopic heart's content. I'll be running it out of a Yahoo Group. There is a $15USD fee to join the group, but you get the pdf of the chart and support files. I've added the Group Fee as an item in my web shop to make things simpler (no shipping, of course.)

Same mandala - different moods

This is the same mandala colored nine different ways just to show how varied they will come out.  Each stitcher will pick out four color families and three values (light, medium, dark) of each. We plug in the numbers, and my shading key takes over. It's as easy to follow as a regular chart (since it IS a regular chart) once you pick the colors. You can use any solid color floss brand you like - HDF, DMC, etc. Those of you who have done one of these color-it-yourself mandalas with me know how much fun it is.

I think the group will be a great opportunity to share color combinations and idea. There's no obligation to stay in the group or to actively participate once you get the files, but I expect it to evolve into a pleasant stitch along. I should be able to punch out some previews of your combos, too (within reason, of course.) The question might be whether you can stitch it only once.

  4. Hi,

I have a great vision for this over my television - a blank space that's been bothering me. I have one question, though, will it be able to create multiple versions (I'm thinking 4) based on the same color theme?

  5. Hi Claire, there are actually 24 different ways that you assign the same 4 color groups. The best way to do four versions I think would be to be to rotate each set to the next set below it on the key, and do that 3 times.

    1. Thanks for asking - No dates; no pressure. I plan on keeping the group open until next May. There are a number of folks who are getting the materials but don't plan on starting any time soon. The only danger is that we keep coming up with new cool color combinations. The later you start stitching, the harder it will be to decide. :-)

    2. Thanks, Tracy. The reason I asked is because I know I won't be able to get to it till at least in the fall, and I may change my mind by then (although I doubt it [g]).

More to choose from, huh? And this is a bad thing???

  7. I just signed up. I'm assuming I'll get an email telling me how to join the Yahoogroup and a link to print the pattern out?
